Fredo
Fredo was brought into the Forgotten Angels Sanctuary with a fractured femur just above the knee. We believe it was caused from abuse, possibly someone kicking him, as there were no other signs of visible trauma such as abrasions or hair loss that would attribute it to automobile or other cause. This required a special steel plate and pin installed to correct the fracture. His surgery has cost the shelter over $3,000.
Update: January Fredo has fully recovered from his surgery and is able to make full use of his leg again! He is full of energy and loves to greet everyone who comes into the shelter.
Update: May Fredo has been adopted and is now happily living with his forever family!
Frosty
Frosty had a shattered femur due to abuse from a teenager. His surgery and care has cost our shelter more than two thousand dollars. He now has a steel rod and wires holding his shattered leg together. On December 21, 2009 we have raised nearly $1,800.00 to help with Frosty's medical care. Frosty has been moved to the regular cat area. He is still not using his leg but gets around just fine. He will be reevaluated in the future. Thank you all for being so generous.
Update: March After several surgeries for internal correction it was decided that Frosty's leg would have to be amputated. The surgery was complicated after he experienced an embolism that had entered his lungs. He later had to be resuscitated. Fortunately, Frosty does not have any residual brain damage and is now adjusting to his new walk. The Four Paws Veterinary Hospital in Mystic went above and beyond for Frosty and for our shelter financially. Our gratitude cannot be expressed enough for the veterinary staff.
Update: May On May 13, Frosty went to his forever home with our volunteers Monika and Jeremy. He is very happy and constantly wants to cuddle!
Phantom
Phantom has skin cancer which has caused her right ear to deteriorate. In February she was taken into the vet to have her ear amputated. We hope that this buys her more time, but is definitely providing more comfort for her. She is recovering nicely and continues to be in high spirits everyday.
Ruby
We took in Ruby from a family that lives in Griswold. She was left in their driveway on an extremely hot summer day. She was extremely sick and dehydrated and her belly was distended from worms. Our shelter was not even finished when we took Ruby in. The family that had Ruby was heading to Disney World and needed to find a home for the kitten so they could enjoy their vacation. This family did not offer a donation or help in anyway. After several weeks of medication and care, Ruby recovered very well. She settled in and made herself right at home in her foster family's house. Ruby was adopted by a very nice man who owns a hair salon in Hartford. She found a great forever home.
D.G.
D.G. (short for Dirty Girl) was found at Second Chance Sanctuary in Sterling where she lived outside. She was in terrible shape with mouth ulcerations as were most of the cats we rescued from Second Chance. After taking her into our care, she received months of medical care and proper nutrition.
